Julie Engbrock

I love to create art because it’s my “zone” -where time disappears, thoughts flow with freedom in both calmness and intensity of myself.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I am influenced by both Wassily Kandinsky and realism. I like to create art, often so bold and colorful that I can almost hear it. Realism is pure practice, talent and technique. Many of my artworks are a blend of unnatural colors in a realism style. I use watercolor, color pencil, and sometimes a touch of inks. Other works I enjoy creating are commissioned and I love the look in another’s eyes when they receive the artwork in subjects they select.

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration is everywhere. For me, it is in the big and tiny parts of nature, it is in the works of others, old photographs and family. It is in people’s stories, experience and in my own dreams.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would replace my 20+ year old roof (that doesn’t sound very sexy, I know), and new art supplies sprinkled in between contractor invoices.
