My favorite type of art to create attempts to examine the true nature of steel as a medium through the traditional heritage of blacksmithing. Due to its nature & multifaceted properties, steel has been used for its functionality throughout history. Combining steel’s tradition with humanity & a contemporary view of art, the art that I create bridges the gap between fine art & the functional.
Where do you find inspiration?I look to the physical & emotional environment where my work will permanently reside for core inspiration. Incorporating historical & cultural references of the environment & a theory of proportions, I try to express my abiding fascination with the unique nature of steel under pressure and my contemplation of what it means for metal to be moved based on my experience & the craft tradition.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the money to build my own industrial workshop, particularly by getting a 30’x60’ sheet metal steel building for my forge and power hammers.
