Created by the survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo. To them, art is healing, survival and voice!
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Storytelling is my type of art, through acting and writing but I am here on behalf of the voiceless artists; The survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo who remain anonymous doe to stigma, judgment and safety. No name, no faces, yet their handmade jewelry, crafted through embroidery and needlepoint, is deeply meaningful and I believe their art and the story behind it must be shared with the world. Each piece holds power, strength, dignity and a voice that cannot be silenced.
Where do you find inspiration? In anything that moves me. Sometimes it’s something small like the smell of tea, a memory or a moment of silence. But often, it’s people. Strength, vulnerability, survival. The women survivors I am representing find inspiration in colours, in flowers, in butterflies, symbols of freedom, transformation and life beyond pain. That kind of perspective reshapes how you see the world. It becomes impossible not to create from it.
What would you do with $25,000?I am dedicating this entire competition and the entire amount to the survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo. It would go directly toward materials, resources and promotion so they can continue creating their handmade brooches and necklaces. This means the world to them, it’s a way to reclaim their voice, generate income and share their stories with the world, safely and on their own terms.
