Plein air paintings, which are created when you go out in Nature and paint direct from life! I live in San Diego so I am naturally drawn to painting our beautiful Pacific Ocean and coast. I love to paint the ocean and water and capture the luminosity of water and its transparency, reflections on water and the movement of waves. I love painting sunrises on the Sea of Cortez, where I have my artist retreat in the dunes. I also love paining the desert which is my other view in Baja.
Where do you find inspiration?I love painting anything with beautiful light. It’s all about the light and mood. I find inspiration from Nature and her ever changing moods, light and atmosphere. I find endless inspiration painting water; I love how it reflects and moves and how color works on it. I love the movement and multifaceted colors if water, the quiet beauty of the Baja desert, the majesty of the Sierras, and the poetry of dancing trees! I also love to paint people and capture their spirit.
What would you do with $25,000?I would donate a portion of it to teen education of the arts as I feel its so important to pass on the kraft of painting to our youth and engage their creativity. I would use the rest to travel and paint plein air to create a new series of the American West paintings - painting the Pacific coast, and the Sierra mountains, Arizona or Utah. I would also use the plein air paintings to inform larger major studio works.
