I trust in secret powers of things. An arrangement of items, symbols and words brings the secret powers to life for a meaningful union.

Some of my works are sculptures, some are photographs, and there is a group that is both—that has double life: they are sculptures and photographs at the same time. There are also works that start as sculptural objects, but when I photograph them and bring both the forms and the concepts behind them to a refined state, I find the original objects inferior by comparison and end up disassembling them. In this case, a photograph is my only option.
Where do you find inspiration? My art is often shaped by my ongoing emigrant experience. It draws on the visual vocabulary of my Polish childhood and on my subsequent exposure to American commercial and pop-cultural iconography. The resulting blend shows the paradoxes of an emigrant artist’s mindset.
What would you do with $25,000?To paraphrase Charles Dickens: these are the best of times, these are the worst of times to be an artist. The virtual reality of social media supplies many illusions, entraps artists and limits their opportunity to excel in the real world. I’m applying because I believe that the grant THE PEOPLE’S ARTIST offers would open real and tangible opportunities for me. I want to develop a new project titled FOLKLORE, 2026 and it requires a large budget for the production of many photographic prints.
