I create to feel alive, to allow myself a space to explore and be curious, because I have to. I need to use my imagination before I’m gone.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I work to explore the relationship between death and life. In my work, I use macabre and gothic subjects that reflect a dark, surrealistic aesthetic. My favorite art allows the viewer to be confronted by their own death. The time we have is short, and my work helps to emphasize this regarding history, national, and personal affairs. My favorite type of art to create serves as a haunting catalyst to look inward, calling the viewer to react and accomplish their goals before it is too late.
Where do you find inspiration?I'm interested in negative space, the human form, visceral texture, extreme acts of violence, the human condition, historical legacy, systemic oppression, and romantic notions of sacrifice. Im inspired by art, music, nature, and human expression.
What would you do with $25,000?$25,000 will be used to help me implement a career growth plan. I will spend time developing a larger series of oil paintings exploring the death of nations through figure. I'll use the funds to pay for booths and travel expenses to show and sell this work strategically over a year at the Other Art Fair events in Brooklyn, Chicago, Dallas, London, and Los Angeles. This will help me gain sales & attention from curators. Ultimately, I'll gain momentum and be selected for the Whitney Biennial.
