Each medium provides a unique avenue for spirit to reveal itself. I vacillate between the color and form of visual art for access to abstract idea, iconography and archetype, writing for depicting the subtle nuances of human experience using the expansive aspect of poetry or the narrative of fiction, music for the immediacy of emotion and message and theatre for the total reality replacement achieved when all these forms are combined. They are all modalities of joining the cosmos in co-creation

The works and lives of artists and thinkers that have come before have always been an inspiration. I feel like I am part of a continuum of this ancient process that goes back to paintings in caves and spirit dances. Often the unresolved or unseen parts of my own psyche and awareness inform the work as they are pushed from the periphery into a present view in the process.

If I was granted this award I would first take a pause. I have always had to juggle my commitment to arts with the necessity of making a living. Although I founded and directed a multimedia art center and have been organizing arts events on and off in my career I still mainly support myself in the trades. I would seek to generate an infrastructure for an altruistic endeavor that might allow me to make more of a living in my chosen field while creating the opportunity for other artists as well.
