I create from lived experience. Pulling from history, research, and personal memories to honor Black life, invite reflection & conversation

I typically gravitate most toward surrealist, narrative-driven fine art. Specifically pieces that blend historical references with present-day realities. I like to leave a hidden gem in each painting that sparks curiosity and thought provoking emotion.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in lived experience, Black history, and the quiet details of everyday life. I often start with a single idea or question, then research the history behind it, gather references through travel and observation, and layer those elements into narratives that connect past and present.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the award to create a new body of work and present my first solo exhibition in a space that reflects the history I paint. It would also support securing a permanent studio/gallery; an accessible place for community and storytelling. Most importantly, it gives me the time and freedom to deepen the work and honor the stories I carry. By day I work full time and art gives me an outlet to carry through my creativity. I'd love more freedom to be creative and share that with more people.
