My whole life up until this point has been nothing but smoke and mirrors. The art of covering up something so perfect makes me furious. My art is like a bomb. So vulnerable, yet so explosive. My art is like a warning. The repeated words of hatred and evil gives my paintbrush more ammunition. I’m at war with myself. Constant battle of worth. The type of art I create is not for the naïve souls, but for the warriors who keep on getting back up.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration comes in many different forms. My everyday life is filled with inspiration. I allow my inner spirit to choose what moves me. The arguments with a family member to my tv screen to someone beautiful who will break my heart. All is inspiration. My favorite artists are Gilbert Ronstadt (From my Hometown & the father of Linda Ronstadt), Helen Green, & Frida Kahlo. They all share a sense of identity and culture in their work. I have to live and breathe my work before it becomes something.
What would you do with $25,000?This money would go towards starting my music career. Music has always been a part of my life from such a young age. Always calling me but I would never pick up the phone. This year, I picked up the phone. I don’t have the funds for all the expenses it takes to putting an album together. I’m inspired by Linda Ronstadt & Rosie Hamlin. My dream is to create music that makes an impact & connects with individuals like me who feel like they didn’t get a fair chance at life. Thank you immensely.
