Shattered pieces reflect our fight for justice. Inspired by Selwyn Jones’s call to turn pain into purpose, this work urges movements
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I’m drawn to figurative and narrative artwork that carries emotion in the posture, the texture, the silence between shapes. I love blending realism with abstract fragments because it mirrors how life feels: layered, imperfect, and still beautiful. My favorite pieces are the ones that tell a story without needing a single word
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the people who keep going families, elders, community voices, and those who turn heartbreak into purpose. I’m shaped by African American history, by the rhythm of everyday life, and by artists who painted truth with courage. My work grows out of lived experience, memory, and the belief that art can heal what the world breaks
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the funds to expand the NCCU Class of 1980 Legacy Art Project, creating scholarships, supporting student artists, and bringing more community murals to life. The grant would help me produce museum quality prints and build programs that use art to inspire healing, education, and pride in our cultural stories
