What is your favorite type of art to create?

My artistic vision explores cultural identity through my Puerto Rican heritage, weaving spiritual and religious iconography with contemporary visual language. My paintings place familiar objects into uncommon contexts, creating surreal compositions that invite contemplation. This deliberate juxtaposition bridges the conscious and unconscious mind, allowing viewers to access memories and emotions that might otherwise remain unreached, offering a haven where the spiritual and personal meet.

Where do you find inspiration?

My inspiration is rooted in lived experience—family, faith, and the environments that have shaped me. Born and raised on Manhattan's Lower East Side and now living in Central Harlem, I draw from the rhythms and resilience of these neighborhoods. My Puerto Rican heritage, the people I have encountered over more than fifty years of creating, and my work as an educator all inform my visual language. Each painting becomes a quiet conversation between memory, culture, and the present moment.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would open a community art studio—an inclusive space where children, adults, and seniors can gather to release emotion and explore creativity. Drawing on my training in art therapy and over two decades teaching students with special needs, I would offer programs that build self-esteem, foster community, and affirm art's power to heal and connect. The funds would support supplies, workshops, and outreach, ensuring that anyone, regardless of background, has access to art's transformative force.
