Painting is the only medium that allows me to express myself in ways that I find too hard to put into words.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I’m an architect, writer, musician and painter. Painting is the most freeing -- it doesn't have to be pretty to cut the deepest.
Where do you find inspiration? My latest efforts focus heavily on the human-toll failed immigration laws have yielded on displaced populations around the globe. I have been deeply touched by this issue as I, myself, am an immigrant: a mixture of Italian, Spanish and Chilean, but born and raised in Venezuela. This gives me a unique and very personal perspective on the subject. The pain and horror inflicted on displaced migrants and refugees is more than I could effectively put into words, so painting became the best outlet.
What would you do with $25,000?The grant would allow the winner to continue creating art uninterruptedly and I'm no different -- I think artists are needed now more than ever as art itself is society’s greatest cultural barometer. Artists have been bestowed with the weighty responsibility to comment, honestly and without filters, about the state of the world we live in -- either by holding a mirror to others and show where we are as a society or by merely carving a safe space where potential solutions can be discussed.
