I love to hand draw graphic t-shirts. I focus on mixed media, mainly drawing with sharpies, making my own hand-drawn stencils and using spray paint, air-brush, and hand painting with acrylics and inks on vintage blank tees from ranging from the 1940s-80s. I finally settled on making t-shirts my canvas because I believe that the wearable art of graphic tees is timeless and approachable to everyone.
Where do you find inspiration?I find most of my inspiration from music. I love 70s punk and the cultural revolution it brought, especially with self expression. I grew up listening to folk and bluegrass and like to intertwine it with imagery from turn of the century cartoons, like Felix the cat. I focus on mashing up lyrics and visuals with pop culture icons. Whether it be from a cult classic movie, 1950s comic strips, or a nostalgic idiom or catchphrase, I want to playfully nod to an era of my life.
What would you do with $25,000?If I won, it would be a major step forward to making art my full time career. I would be able finance an art studio and my full time job could become a part time job.
