I create art to document real stories in my life and surroundings—capturing truth, stirring empathy, & inspiring people to create change.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love creating art because it gives me a way to witness and respond to the world with honesty. Through my work in digital media for one of Los Angeles’ largest nonprofits—and through my time working in East Africa—I’ve seen how powerful it is to document real lives, real struggles, and real resilience. Photography allows me to hold up a mirror to social realities in both Los Angeles and East Africa, not just to be seen, but to be felt. I create to awaken people and inspire change.
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration comes from real life. Working in digital media for one of Los Angeles’ largest nonprofits and spending time working in East Africa has placed me in spaces where stories are often overlooked. I’m inspired by the strength of the communities I document and the responsibility to tell their stories with honesty and care.
What would you do with $25,000?I’d invest in new equipment to strengthen the quality of my work, and use the rest to start a photography class for women at the non-profit I work at—creating space for them to tell their own stories and build confidence through art.
