Sculpture is my favorite way of working. I love working with wood, though my heart still belongs to ceramics and metal. I love textiles and the blending of soft and hard materials together to create textures that are unexpected. Working on three dimensional objects gives you so much more ‘canvas’ to play with and can affect a space in such a different way than working in two dimensions.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration from cold glacier streams, and strong mountain women. The beautiful landscape of the Rocky Mountain West greatly influences my work. I’ve long tied the female figure into landscapes and how we objectify both. My desire as a female artist is to reclaim some of that power.
What would you do with $25,000?$25,000 would be a huge benefit to my studio practice. I would buy welder and get back into metal working and upgrade my ventilation system to keep me and my family safe in the studio. That money would be unbelievably helpful to me at this time when everything feels so tight.
