I make wearable glass art that references processes in metal or textiles to make it more durable and comfortable.

My favorite type of art to create is tedious, repetitive patterns. Over the years, I have tried many mediums ranging from lost wax metal casting to alternative materials embroidery and enjoyed many of them, but the common theme is I produce the most beautiful things when I work small, tight, and for long periods of time. Mixing large and loose components with small and tight details to create a dynamic piece is what I would like to do with this grant.
Where do you find inspiration?I carefully study crafting mediums through history and usually I start by copying a crafting technique, such as the chainmaille pattern “rosemaille” in metal, a mighty feat. Then, I spend long drives and walks pondering how to modify the process to fit my statement. I ended up translating rosemaille directly into glass and gold fuming it to give it a golden shimmer. I find inspiration in the invention of pattern and textile processes.
What would you do with $25,000?With the prize, I would complete a 2 year series of mixed media fluid paintings. This series focuses the modern ocean via liquid pouring, chemistry, embroidery, and glass elements. It has received support from the Corning Museum of Glass in the form of a half scholarship to a week workshop with professor Eunsuh Choi. It needs more support due to the pouring medium cost as well as much practice. Part of the work would be donated to an organization supporting ocean cleanup.
