Expressionism, because it allows the train to get off the tracks for a bit. For me, this process equals total freedom. It’s the best feeling in the world to fill the palette with paint, turn on loud music and disappear into the canvas. Authenticity is the result of complete detachment from all outcomes. It’s free to become whatever it wants and it’s the one place I can allow my brain to flow in any direction rather than being strictly tied to whatever my original idea or inspiration is.
Where do you find inspiration?Music and documentaries are the most common place I find inspiration. Both bring out strong emotions and relevant concepts that I like to translate with paint. Punk, metal, folk, & oldies on shuffle are responsible for the eloquent chaos behind most of my pieces.
What would you do with $25,000?I'm opening a totally new concept for an immersive art gallery that I’ve been developing. I believe that artists should start trends not follow them, make (good) noise, and be a part of a progressive community. I’ve run several small art spaces over the last 15 years, but I’ve never had the privilege of capital to lease a place like I’ve always wanted to. I’m going to find a way with or without this contest, but it would really help this process.
