I’m Amy Gibson, a potter shaping desert dreams from concrete, turning sand into objects that echo the California landscape they come from.

From home I run a small pottery business called North Fernside. I love creating desert-inspired pottery from concrete—material born of sand, shaped into functional art for the home. Each piece reflects the quiet beauty of the California desert, with soft, earthy tones and organic form. I’m drawn to making objects that are not only useful, but that evolve over time—weathering gently, gaining character, and settling naturally into the spaces they inhabit, like fragments of the landscape itself.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration on the open road, traveling the western deserts with my adventurous husband, our two dogs, with our 2nd home in tow… our 19ft Airstream! These vast, quiet landscapes shape my work—earthy tones, raw textures, and forms rooted in sand itself. From this journey, I create functional pieces for the home that echo the land they’re born from, designed to weather beautifully and carry the spirit of the desert into everyday life.
What would you do with $25,000?What would I do with the money?! Honestly, I’d replace my wood floors—lovingly destroyed over the years by my two “children.” Between puppy chewing phases, splashing water bowls, sharp nails, and rainy-day games of fetch, every inch has a story. It may not be glamorous or artistic, but it would make a huge difference in my everyday life.
