The creative process for me is both exciting and calming at the same time. It’s from the creator, like earth pigment turned into something.

I’m pondering that question and because I use my hands and like the tactile feel of various materials, I can rule out computer generated art and watercolors as not being my favorite. I think oils are wonderfully squishy between applications and can be used thick or thin, so I do enjoy the variety of smoother paint applied by hand and then creating texture with either movement of my fingers in the paint or items. With pastels I do an underpainting and then touch pigment. Clay’s all hands on too
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration comes through nature and emotional experience. In clay it’s more emotional for me. Sculptural qualities also exit at times in my other work, yet joy is what I seek in oils and pastels, drawing inspiration from natural surroundings or settings that tell a story. I have also done documentary paintings of natural areas that changed drastically via nature interrupting our man made surroundings, such as, “City of Duck, NC; after the Hurricane; which is a large pastel, 2019.
What would you do with $25,000?1) I would do more framing of my large pastels, which can be so pricey to frame that they seem harder to show. 2) I would add some more base colors for my color mixing for my oils, as I do these so I can paint more quickly when in front of the matrix. 3) I think also, I would seek out more non toxic methods of some art I am formally schooled in, like printmaking and sculpting. The glazes can be fired on, yet I want to find air drying clay that can also be colored without a kiln.
