Andrea Chavez

To me, art shapes me into the person I am. Once I'm painting I get into a headspace where it's only me & my art creating a sense of ease.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

My favorite art to create is oil paintings in a very traditional way but adding my own style and techniques into it. At the very beginning of my art journey I would only use acrylic but I have learned and adapted to using other mediums. To this day I like to experiment with mixed media such as collage and have grown to open up from solely using oil paint. As well with my painting style, I always try to adapt in that aspect as well. Overall oil painting will always be my go-to.

Where do you find inspiration?

When I look to paint, my main inspiration is my family and friends. Most of my paintings have family/friends that are dear to me or my paintings will have a story behind it that is connected to them. Although, when I initially started to paint I didn't have a main inspiration, it just became a pattern of what I paint. Sometimes I get the urge to paint something that looks aesthetically pleasing to me so I paint it, such as my oil painting "Flow".

What would you do with $25,000?

Going to college in the United States has become more and more expensive by the year, therefore most of the money would be invested into college, in order to be debt free as possible. As my degree would be in the arts I would have to provide art supplies, so I would also invest into buying paints, canvases, brushes, etc. Overall the money would help me provide for my everyday necessities and become my main investment towards pursuing art in college.
