It is my belief if you are born to create, nothing will stop you. I want my art to make a statement and stir a feeling.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Paper collage and acrylic paint
Where do you find inspiration?Sometimes ideas pop into my head but often it's a pattern, a photo, a television commercial or a feeling. When I did American woman is was all about my feelings of what an American woman was - a poet, a famous person, a poor woman, a disabled woman, Native American or a slave - all American women. I love experimenting with hidden pictures in my work. I like to make people think about things they never thought about before or see things differently than their point of view.
What would you do with $25,000?Naturally I would keep some for myself, but I would donate a lot to local schools. When I was growing up there were no art classes in my school. I begged for art supplies for Christmas and my parents bought me a set of oil paints and brushes, but no canvas. I used the white cardboard that women's stockings came in. I saved all the stickers that came on bananas and made a mosaic on the back of my bedroom door. I want school children to have better outlets and supplies to create.
