Art has an amazing ability to connect us. I love to make works of art that carry our stories and that start meaningful conversations.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love to paint people, realistic figurative works, paintings that depict humanity in its beauty and ugliness. Using realistic styling, I paint people I know to tell stories about who we are and what we struggle with. While my work is based in reality, sometimes I weave in surreal aspects to help carry the narrative and build an experience for the viewer.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in everyday people that I meet, in our shared experiences trying to find our way in the world. As a life long lover of art, I take inspiration by many who have come before and some who still create today. Some of my influences are Rene Magritte, Warhol, Kehinde Wiley, William Morris, and countless others.
What would you do with $25,000?Receiving $25,000 would be career changing. I am slated for a large exhibition in 2027 celebrating community and our varying experiences of home. Winning this award would allow me to take that exhibition to a grander scale by covering the cost of materials, the cost of additional studio and storage space needed create this body of work, all of which would help me build larger more elaborate works. And most importantly it would help me begin circulating the exhibition across the united states.
