My art is about the journey from the darkness into the light. I am a published author and a painter. My most significant work is titled- "After the silence." In which I entered for this contest. It's a visual representation about finding my voice after years of being silenced by abuse. I also love music; l am currently setting up a music room in my home where I can express the peace l've finally found. I believe art isn't just something you look at; it's how you survive. "
Where do you find inspiration?"When l look at things differently, the things l look at change. I am no longer looking through the lens of a victim. I am looking through the lens of a Grandmother, an Artist and a Homeowner. That new lens is where all my inspiration lives. The most beautiful mythologies are created by those who have walked through the fire and finally found the courage to speak the truth. It isn't just art; it is my evidence of life." Raw, textured reflection of a spirit that refused to stay in the shadows.
What would you do with $25,000?"I would use this $25,000 to finish the sanctuary l have built for my family. After surviving years of silence and domestic abuse, l finally have a 4-bedroom home on a half-acre in Illinois. The money would fully furnish the nursery I am currently building for my first grandbaby- using secondhand treasures I've found- and ensure that this house remains a safe, permanent 'soft place to land' for my son, daughter and grandchild, away from the chaos of the past."
