Drew:As a future ortho surgeon, I use digital art to heal. Coming from nothing, it's my way to deeply connect with and comfort my patients.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
As an upcoming artist and a Kinesiology double major, my favorite type of art bridges a poetic view of science with the emotion behind the work. I enjoy creating sketches and digital illustrations using Procreate and Photoshop, often focusing on human anatomy and the skeletal structures that support us as people. I also enjoy traditional sketching to convey my work; it is a way to show the form and function of the human body and helps support my future path.
Where do you find inspiration? My deepest inspiration stems from adversity. Growing up with alcoholic family members, and starting with nothing taught me a level of resilience that fuels my drive to heal those in pain. I am drawn to the incredible capability of the human body to heal itself, and my art is inspired by a profound desire to bring light into dark places. This perspective allows me to comfort future patients and use my past struggles as a catalyst to do great things for the world.
What would you do with $25,000?First, I would use a portion of these funds to help ease the heavy financial burden carried by my mother and family, who are currently struggling. Coming from nothing, supporting my family is a deep priority. I would also like to invest in my pre-med education and give back to the kinesiology and art departments that have supported my growth. Ultimately, this grant would assist my path as a future orthopedic surgeon, ensuring I can help others who have suffered in life.
