A sudden and devastating vision loss stole my career and my independence. Creating tactile art gives me purpose and the ability to inspire.

Abstract Impressionism focused on nature and unknown horizons. I use acrylic paint for color, mixed media for texture and digital tools to mash-up my pieces. While my body of work is recognizable no two pieces are alike. Please visit my website pelej.com for full CV and gallery.
Where do you find inspiration?Detritus. I fill my studio with bits and bobs from the trash. Unique finds that speak to me artistically. I layer on color. Experiment with texture. Glue. Rip. Paint. Repeat. Until my vision emerges and makes me happy. I break all the rules. Experiment with abandon. Add layers to send me in new directions. My process is organic. My inspiration is the pursuit of happiness within my altered life.
What would you do with $25,000?I would used the $25,000 to fund a program for people like me, retired and young, who need to chart a new path in life. Most art therapy courses are focused on “how to.” I would focus on “what feels right.” Not everyone is an artist. But given enough encouragement we can all break thru the rules and find our own way. Creative endeavors are as important as eating, breathing, seeing. Often left untouched for a lifetime, activating the creative part of the brain can save a life. It did for me.
