Photography is my chosen medium. Previously I worked in darkrooms, developing film, and printing black and white images. Currently, my work is digital. I am showing 2 images from my collage portfolio (first and last images) the other images are from a recent series that is not manipulated in Photoshop (although they appear to be). I want my Photographs to document things that actually exist, while simultaneously suggesting something that can only be perceived in the imagination of the viewer.
Where do you find inspiration?Praha (Prague, Czech Republic) has been my muse for over thirty years. It is a magic place with a long history of legends involving poets, madmen, astrologers, astronomers, ghosts and rogue alchemists. Anyone who visits Praha and spends time there will be altered by the experience. Thirty-two years later and I still haunt her streets like a ghost, but a ghost with a camera.
What would you do with $25,000?This award would enable me to live, and work in Central and Eastern Europe for a year without interruption (concentrating photographing in Prague, Budapest, and Krakow). It would cover living expenses, travel, and supplies. At the end of the year I would be able to print and frame the work for an exhibition. This work should provide sufficient material for a book proposal.
