Weaving or painting, creating is prayer, meditation, a whisper quieting my soul holding my hand thru life’s turmoil…my medicine.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I go through different medium seasons…sometimes it’s painting, then weaving, quilting…I love textiles and grew up sewing with my great grandma. She inspired my textile major so although I do love to paint I always find myself drawn back to textiles and natural fibers. I weave cloth on a saori loom. It is a simple loom that allows you to weave your feelings…no rules…no complex pattern to follow…you paint with thread. It’s a beautiful way to capture a moment in time…a feeling…a memory.
Where do you find inspiration?Vintage textiles, natural dyes, fellow artists, music. and nature…to name a few. Something as simple as moss peaking through my brick walkway or an old quilt I thrifted…I love breathing life back into old textiles…reimagining them and utilizing cloth I’ve woven to patch or recreate…
What would you do with $25,000?I would take a bit and pay my cancer treatment bills…then set aside some for a trip with my kids to go somewhere relaxing (it’s been a crazy three years), hit a few bluegrass concerts…and then partner with the cancer support group and organize an art night for cancer patients going through treatment…art therapy…something to get their mind off things for a bit and spend time with loved ones.
