I like that art is like poetry: beautiful, raw, inexplicable. I like art that is uncomfortable, divergent. I like that art is free.

I love taking photos in the street. Documenting a city, a park bench, or people walking along on their own. But I also love taking portraits. Capturing the essence of people and conveying it to the public as faithfully as possible. Between documentary photography and portraits, there's a battle in my head about which one I prefer. Then I realize that what truly inspires me is creating. Because I've had the opportunity to create my own sets for taking photographs.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in film. I've always loved going to the cinema to see movies, though they were never new releases, and always very old ones. Somehow that led me first to photography, and then to writing. Cinema was the door I opened to find my way of painting the world through photography.
What would you do with $25,000?I'd like to publish two photography books. One would be a documentary photography book with photos I took in Havana, filled with both sadness and awe. The other would be a more irreverent and experimental conceptual art book featuring portraits, self-portraits, and other artistic perspectives. I'd also like to travel to a country where I could photograph and document humanity from my point of view.
