My dream is to paint a collection of large-scale oils of elegant imagined women based on my most recent sketch designs who embody faith, healing, and hope - figures meant to uplift those recovering from illness or from the wounds of mental and physical abuse. One of my works honoring the ghosts of Native women murdered by their spouses, now owned privately, once hung in the shelter that nursed me back to health, shaping my devotion to art that restores strength, dignity and courage.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in hearing other artists' stories on the Louisiana Art channel, exploring new work through Colossal, and spending quiet time in nature. Moments alone with God, color, and creation spark the ideas that grow into imagined women and the world's they inhabit.
What would you do with $25,000?This may be unusual, but I plan to give $5000 to a charity that supports abused women, and another $5000 to help my elder daughter - an artist who has struggled since developing seizures after a violent assault in high school. I've often gone without to make sure she has what she needs. Then, I will use a reasonable portion for quality oils and canvas for my large-scale painting projects meant for women's shelters and medical centers, and the rest will go toward essential bills and expenses.
