Plains Cree artist Audi Atcheynum—creating regalia, art & music to carry tradition, spirit, and stories forward.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite art to create is powwow regalia. It’s more than just art to me—it has purpose. Each piece carries meaning, identity, and spirit. I also enjoy painting and music, but regalia is closest to me because it helps people step into who they are and take part in something bigger than themselves.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in my culture, my family, and the people around me. A lot of what I know was passed down from my dad, and I carry that with me. I’m also inspired by those who want to dance but don’t know where to start. Helping them pushes me to keep creating and sharing what I’ve learned.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use it to invest in materials and tools to keep creating and to help others. A big part would go toward making regalia for people who want to dance but can’t access it. I’d also continue developing my art and music. It wouldn’t just support me—it would help me give back, keep culture alive, and make a positive impact through my work.
