I make art to communicate. I find it hard to explain the way I live, see, and love, but being an artist helps me connect to the world. 🫶🏼
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Mixed Media, assemblage, collage, printmaking and I use book binding and old art ephemera to make artist books. I like to make art that can both relate to the audience and still have personal secrets hidden inside the works just for me. I like to share the history of my bloodline, some political stances, and personal discoveries in my work.
Where do you find inspiration?Mainly in my ancestors personal journeys, death, cycles, and my identity as a human being on a beautiful planet. I love learning my family history and noticing where I personally get certain traits or quirks from. It is important to me that I keep their legacy alive, and how I honor that is through creating.
What would you do with $25,000?Oh gosh, wouldn’t that be a dream! I’d really love to put some of it back into the art facilities, galleries, and art centers that raised and taught me. Those programs made me who I am today and I want to give back to those places to help create future superstar artists! I’d also like to use a small portion to put toward my graduate degree so I can become a full time art professor and help other students tell their stories through art the way my professors helped me.
