It was Ica Pas’s way of making sense of the world around her, of events, human rights issues, and trying to show us things we can’t see.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Ica loved to sketch, to sit and just sketch people and things. She loved to deconstruct objects and transform them into art. She was into abstract, surrealism, Dadaism. Her styles varied depending on the subliminal messages intertwined in the work. The style was also based on the decade and the issues of that time. Anything that expressed how she was perceiving what was happening and also which art supplies she could afford to buy.
Where do you find inspiration?Ica found inspiration in other artists she admired, in politics, human rights issues, oppression, color, landscapes, people’s faces, textures, waves, newspapers, the voices she constantly heard, the paranoia, art galleries, cafes, amusement parks, her daughter and just about anything!
What would you do with $25,000?I would continue to restore her works that were in storage for decades and got damaged, continue to catalog her works, to copyright them, help pay for the storage of her oeuvre, associated services involved with exhibiting, to professionally frame the works that do go into exhibitions and to continue to promote her art, her story and the narrative around mental health challenges.
