I create art to express who I am within the love and gratitude of being one with the creator...to watch a blank canvas become full of life.

I consider myself a portrait artist. My work is done mainly in oils on canvas. As a former professional lacrosse athlete, I find portraiture rekindles my competitive nature to capture my subjects. I love to capture the spirit of my subject through the windows to their soul, their eyes. I find doing portraits tests my skills and ability to bring life onto the canvas through capturing their expression and their spirit. I live for that one moment a stroke of paint can make my portrait "pop".
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration is from my indigenous culture. I am from the Onondaga Nation which is part of the Haudenosaunee {People of the longhouse}. Both my father and grandfather were hereditary leaders, so I was exposed to our culture and traditional ways while growing up. The subjects I choose to paint have a direct link to our culture we see in our life's walk today or they are a reflection of a past historical event within the history of our people. I'm helping to keep our culture alive thought art.
What would you do with $25,000?I would renovate and build a studio so I can expand and grow as an artist. Currently, I have very limited space to create in my home. The studio would allow me to create larger works which would help integrate more cultural elements in my work. The larger space would also allow me to instruct, demonstrate, and inspire selected youth in our community to motivate them to follow their art passion. A studio will help take my art to another level...from a passion to a livelihood.
