What is your favorite type of art to create?

I am a mixed media girl, but my late grandmother, who I am interested in being featured mostly used acrylic on canvas and any piece of salvage wood she could get her hands on, she also worked with pen and ink and linoleum prints. She also did paper mache people at one point, they were very neat. She was also a poet. Me, family and friends have been gifted or have inherited her art, with a collective collection. My goal with her art is to make a short biography and book of her collection.

Where do you find inspiration?

As an artist myself my inspiration has always been my grandmother and as an adult I have found new meaning and appreciation for her work. She had a gallery in Savannah and the Atlanta through her career as an artist. Jimmy Carter purchased a piece in the early 70’s from her collection ‘Faces’. Her inspiration was the beauty in pain, finding inspiration to bring light to even the darkest of times and situations. She and my grandfather were civil rights activists and pursed that in their work.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would put the money towards non profit organization directed towards mental health awareness and in writing a book to put her work out for the world to know and see. All proceeds from book will also go towards mental health awareness and hopes of one day displaying her art in a gallery of my own. Her message was so strong and her talent was meant to reach the world. If this opportunity unfolds, it is my life’s dream to make her art gain fame not for her, but for the people. Wish all the best!
