I’m drawn towards figurative and symbolic painting where emotion and meaning reveals itself. Often figures and symbolic pieces that reflect emotional states. Everything I make comes from whatever phase of life I’m in and what I’m trying to work through or understand at the time. And recently, I’ve learned that I’ve created something and won’t find what the true meaning is until later on after reflection. Those ones are my favorite.
Where do you find inspiration?Isolation, memory, and emotional tension tend to pull me into making my work. It’s usually when I don’t fully understand what I’m feeling yet that a piece begins to form. I pull from people, places I’ve been, and times of insecurity or disconnection, creating new figures on the canvas with their own persona. I can’t always verbalize, but I can translate it visually.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the money to make sure I am stable. It would go toward security in my life, so I don’t ever have to worry about stopping my work. I would also use what I need for materials so I can keep creating and developing larger scale work.
