I don’t necessarily have a favourite. I can work on two or three sculptures leaving one for another, or shaping- blending different stones into one stylize project which is my classic aversion to pioneering my primal thoughts. In lieu of my dusty space, I am off to the drawing board to carry on with my illustrations for a children’s book. Then there is the outdoors, my camera, and just me. Photography is awe inspiring.
Where do you find inspiration?Nature is where my inspiration lives. I don’t go looking for ideas — they find me. One night while walking my dog, an owl flew right over us and landed in a tall evergreen. We stood there together, just watching it. That moment stayed with me so deeply that I carved an owl into stone, surrounded by a polar bear, a woman’s face, the eternal knot, and yin-yang. Nature speaks… and when it does, I listen. My work is usually interwoven with the nature of a human being. It could be you!
What would you do with $25,000?As a certified journeyman welder with over 25 years of experience, I have a strong understanding of metallurgy and material compatibility. I’ll soon be combining stone carving with metal fabrication — creating mixed media sculptures built to last. An unimaginable is at my fingertips! Not only of Stone, and steel, but the inclusion drift wood, antler and silver. A fair portion of the $25,000 would be invested in metals, and welding materials for the metal shop.
