Painting is more than a practice for me—it is a personal journal where each canvas reflects my inner world. My abstract work is never random

My favorite type of art to create is abstract painting. I began my journey drawing comic books as a child in Brooklyn, but over time I moved from realism into abstraction because it gives me the freedom to express emotion, memory, and personal experience without limits. Each piece becomes a visual journal, where every stroke is intentional and layered with meaning, allowing me to translate my inner world into color, shape, and movement.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in my life experiences and memories growing up in Brooklyn, New York during the 1980s, where art became my escape at a young age. I’m also inspired by emotion itself—the things I’ve lived through, felt, and processed over time. My abstract work turns those inner thoughts and experiences into color, shape, and movement, almost like a visual journal.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were to win the $25,000 grand prize, I would use it in a deeply meaningful and practical way that reflects both my life and my art. I would honor my late mother with a proper headstone, easing a weight I carry daily. I would also support stability by covering rent, allowing more space to focus on creating. The rest would go toward painting materials and high-quality giclée prints, helping me continue expanding my abstract work and sharing my emotional story through art.
