I love to paint with acrylics and watercolor. I also love drawing with pencil and colored pencils. This year I began illustrating my first children's book, and I have enjoyed learning about the process and fine tuning my skills. It's been a goal of mine since I was a child, and definitely something I would love to continue doing in the future.
Where do you find inspiration?I like to draw inspiration from unexpected places or moments. A small detail I notice can spark an idea, which leads to a sketch, and then a full blown painting. I like to observe people and places around me, or when I'm traveling, to find an interesting moment to be inspired by, or to recreate from an alternate vantage point. Sometimes it's a word or a phrase that pops into my mind, and the idea will grow from there.
What would you do with $25,000?I would love to continue my education and purchase more supplies of course, but I would really like to take a portion and establish a scholarship fund. I teach children's classes at the Mary Nichol's Art center and while we actively apply for grants to help with the cost of supplies and maintaining the building, we still aren't able to offer as many free classes as we would like. Our goal is to make art accessible to everyone, and I'd really like to help make that a reality.
