Bridget Sexauer

If I can find beauty on dirty old fishing boats, maybe I can help others seek inspiration rather than negativity in the world around them.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

That's like picking a favorite child, I can't! I love to hyper focus on tight highly detailed paintings until days have gone by and I have to pee and then let loose on some fun abstracts until I remember I have a pile of found materials that I'm dying to make into a basket or sculpture and while I'm doing that I think of funny ideas for shirts and stickers. But mostly I paint yassified versions of old tools and machinery I see at work that I think have character.

Where do you find inspiration?

Every waking moment is an opportunity to be inspired by my surroundings whether it's a unique face, a striking contrast of shadow and light, reflections on water or windows, cool rocks, anything old and nostalgic, people existing, unexpected compositions seen while walking in the city or an abandoned cannery, the visual representation of the passage of time....I really am just a toddler full of wonder, curating the world around me and showing what I saw to everyone like a new toy.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would buy myself time away from my day job to paint and move one step closer to my dream of starting an artist residency on an old ship so that I can recreate my own experience for other creative souls. Most importantly, I want to show everyone that despite the ugliness and chaos around us, life is beautiful and I'm glad we're all here to suffer through it together.
