I love to use "forgotten" vintage magazine pages to preserve the past, reworking nostalgia into something modern, emotional, and alive again
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I love creating vintage mixed media work. One of my styles involves blending black and white painted portraits of 50's icons with magazine pages from that era. There’s something powerful about taking pieces of the past and restoring them into layered, contemporary compositions. I’m also drawn to 1920's European advertising, where I reimagine classic wine & spirit poster aesthetics through the lens of vintage car culture to create my own interpretation of this unique era of design.
Where do you find inspiration?I draw strong inspiration from the visual and cultural language of the 1950s through vintage print media, music, film, and classic cars. Although I wasn’t born into that era, I’ve always felt deeply connected to it. Growing up in my grandfather’s 50s diner-style garage, full of classic hotrods, surrounded by Betty Boop, Elvis, and Marilyn Monroe memorabilia, with music playing from the jukebox...it felt like stepping into another time. This definitely shaped my artistic eye from an early age.
What would you do with $25,000?I would invest the $25,000 directly back into my practice by expanding my studio and scaling production so I can create without restriction. For years, I’ve worked in whatever space I had...my bedroom, kitchen, even storage closets. Moving into a dedicated studio would transform my process, allowing me to work bigger, experiment more and push beyond current limitations. It would also give me the opportunity to create a space where people can experience my work in person!
