Caesar D Alzate Jr

I enjoy creating my artworks; when I am in the flow-state I become a conduit, a connection with the Over-soul is manifesting an Artwork.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Artworks that explores my color blindness (deuteranopia), I choose to use acrylic paint in the making of them. I use a heatgun to accelerate the drying process of the paint; this tool aids me to bake thousands of layers of paint on the canvas creating calcified textures. I am not being seduced by the color of the paint; but, the “physical properties” of the paint - its mass, texture, and how it reacts to heat. A dialogue between the paint and I, we negotiate selective accidents to speak a truth.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find it in my skepticism of color, I question what people tell me about the color of a thing because from my perspective it is grey. My experience with color is completely different from the general public’s collective agreement of it and the word they use for the color is a stand-in for the invisible from my point of view. I am inspired by a physical “truth” of it instead of a visual “lie” about it. I am inspired by the mental construct of color and the visual sensation of color.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would buy large size canvases or wood panels 72x72 or 48x48 and buy gallons of exotic paint like Black 4.0 or Yolo or White 2.0 and purchase support equipment (brushes, buckets, cleaning products, artist tape, shoes, heatguns, and video equipment to document) to make these larger paintings in my authentic style. I would use this money to buy time away from work, using that time to invest in the making of these paintings; also to pay for utility bills for electricity for the heatgun and WiFi.
