Painting feels like smearing my brain on a canvas. Suddenly every thought I failed to articulate becomes visual, eloquent, evocative.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I’m in love with mixed media canvas. Acrylic base. Recycled materials—sometimes broken objects, sometimes florals or string—and, finally, a poem. That’s where my work feels like freedom. My paintings are emotional, eloquent in a visual sense. Because I use one of a kind materials, I can’t make the same thing twice. Everything has a voice.
Where do you find inspiration?Where does anyone? In the world. In my mind. I become overwhelmed with emotions, with reverence for the soul of even the smallest things, and I paint in layers. Sometimes the paint and the colors are my gut feelings and the sentiments I’ve held close. Sometimes the objects—broken clock, an old tea set, a discarded guitar—are testaments to lived history. If my art is music, then the canvas is an orchestra.
What would you do with $25,000?A bit aside for savings; a bit aside for debt; a bit to my family; most to my fervent love for art and for the pursuit of living an irreplaceable existence.
