I paint the things we can’t see with the human eye. I love art because for me, it is channeling. It is meditation, intuitive and joyful.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is the art with no plan. Grabbing materials with intuition, switching materials throughout the process and being as pleasantly surprised by the result as anyone else would be. Art that is as much an adventure as creative pursuit breathes life into me and allows me to feel into a piece where anything is possible. Following each small intuitive nudge to place a line here or use a color there - each decision on the spot in real time. That’s my favorite art to make.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration is found, for me, in meditative states. I paint each small detail as it comes to me without a destination in mind. With that approach, it is my experience that the painting inspires itself. One choice informs the next, inspiring the next paint stroke after that. From another perspective you could say these paintings are built much of the way our lives are built. One step at a time, never knowing exactly what is next but knowing you’ll always be prepared for it. Life’s a painting.
What would you do with $25,000?With the winnings of this competition I would invest in and expand my art business, invest in a studio space with lots of natural light and a home that gives back to me as much as I give to it. I would pay off my debt, and invest in my health and the expansion of my creative pursuits (as there are many). I hope to build a creative career that will bring communities together and inspire others to make art. It is my goal to make making art more accessible to more people as long as I am alive.
