Art with movement is my favorite to create. Many of the carvings I make are seen from different angles and distances so they need be dynamic. When a person can see different details as they walk around a carving it can spark a curiosity to ask questions. I love to tell the story of how that particular carving was made and why it was commissioned. I am very blessed to get to create things for the past 26 years.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in every day life. I’m a Christian so I definitely see Gods creation as a wonderful handmade project. I also find inspiration and excitement in each customer that I get to work with. Most of the carvings I make are specifically made to accomplish a specific goal. It may be to memorialize something or simply to make someone happy. I am from a small town in West Texas. This area is an awesome blank canvas. The people here find inspiration in their families and community.
What would you do with $25,000?I love to show my carvings to groups of people. Schools church groups and other organizations come to my shop and watch me make things and I encourage them to help. That money would be helpful in expanding that type of public interaction.
