I love the process of making: the hard work, the struggle and the reward of the feeling of completion. My work gives me purpose and meaning.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Whether drawing or working in glass I enjoy making art that challenges me mentally, physically and emotionally. My art is not only trying to capture a sliver of what we experience as nature and interpreting it through my own personal lens but also revealing parts of my psyche in the process. My recent work is both abstract and representational depictions of natural elements and recognizable landscapes formed from thousands of pieces of hand-cut glass or marks on a sheet of paper.
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration comes from intense observation of the natural world and from the vivid pictures in my mind. I sometimes feel inspired by other artists and quite often the materials themselves create ideas. Inspiration can also come from the continuous journey of failures, successes and unexpected wins. It’s about awareness, observation and the unfaltering belief that it is worthwhile to create.
What would you do with $25,000?The $25,000 would be put towards purchasing the necessary materials to create a body of work that I have been developing conceptually but have not had the means to manifest. With most of my work in recent years being public art commissions with specific guidelines and expectations, it would be liberating to have a budget specifically designated to pursuing my own ideas and executing them unrestrained. The People’s Artist Award would help me share my artistic vision to a broader audience.
