Connect What is your favorite type of art to create?

Art is a universal form of communication. My favorite Art to create challenges the contexts of what you see. A Red rose represents love, but what is meant when it’s discarded in a cold, empty parking lot at 2AM? I love painting in water colors & inks, but ability of photographs to capture images that silently comment on daily life are best. I took a picture of 4 college students sitting together on the bus, never acknowledging each other. The silence, deafening, as each stared at phone screens

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration almost everywhere in nature, people and situations when I’m riding the bus or train the angle in the way someone is standing or how a red rose finds itself discarded in a lonely parking lot evening time.

What would you do with $25,000?

I like to to paint on chairs, but they have to be real wood chairs that usually means scouting out thrift stores and neighborhood garage sales. One I found a beautiful, oak child’s rocking chair discarded in someone’s front yard. I knocked on the door and asked if I could have it to paint on; they let me have it. I would use it to buy some of the art supplies I can’t afford such as Windsor and Newton inks whose colors are so vibrant and blend well especially on wet water color paper.
