I create art as a way to find equilibrium within my heart and mind. In a dreamlike, quantum state, images appear to me and I painted them.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My practice centers on painting the messages I receive in sleep, a process I call Dreamhead. In this state, imagery emerges vividly, and I translate these visions onto canvas. Alongside painting, I create sculptures from found objects, reassembling fragments of the everyday into new forms of meaning.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in my dreams and in what I call our shared Geohumanity. As an artist working at the frontier of human experience, I fell a responsibility to express what remains unseen or unspoken in society. In my dreams, images appear vividly, sometimes accompanied by a guiding voice, and I translate these impressions into my work.
What would you do with $25,000?I would give the $25,000 to the Creative Art Space for Kids, Art Center, which I founded 30 years ago and continue to nurture in Lynbrook, New York. It’s a place where children and teenagers discover their creative voice. In times when the arts are often the first to suffer, I fell a deep responsibility to protect and sustain a space that gives young people the freedom to imagine and create.
