Carolyn Meert

I have strong pareidolia. I think everyone has it, but I seem to see images in everything. I get inspired by the beauty of the ordinary

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I like three-dimensional work the best, I have also worked with painting and drawing in different mediums. This painting is watercolor and gouache& shows a pile of books set on fire and all the lives and stories being destroyed by that. The books become a building with people trying to escape the fire and each window shows a figure.

Where do you find inspiration?

Everywhere I look, but people are the most elegant subjects. In humans, you can find innocence or horror, good and evil, beauty, ugliness, strength, weakness... all the things

What would you do with $25,000?

I have always wanted to cast a bronze piece. I would like to try that. I also have a charity that I would like to help out if I won. Its called Community Food Club. it's like a food bank, but people get vouchers and shop in a grocery store atmosphere so there isn't the stigma of feeling like you are getting a handout. I grew up poor. I remember the eyes on our backs when my mother had to use what at the time, were actual food stamp coupons.
