Through my art, I have grown to appreciate the landscape around me and the people who have occupied it long before me and after me.

Working with textiles, I enjoy repurposing what I have to convey stories, either implied or overt. Story quilts are a particular favorite. However, garments often tell stories through construction, deconstruction, age, and decay. As long as it’s a needle and thread, I’m there.
Where do you find inspiration? From the visceral memory brought on by the land. My art has always been informed by my formative years and connecting back to my childhood sense of wonder at the beauty in things remembered and forgotten. I'm preoccupied with reconciling memory with the present moment--the sort of stasis that comes from mixing progression with the past.
What would you do with $25,000?I would put it back into my needle and thread. Growing up, frugality was key. Thus, my constant urge to reuse, repurpose. Ideally, I would love to teach these ideas to others across my part of the world. Repurposing is an art that can take many forms and is endemic to the future of our people and planet. My goal is to share the skills that have brought me joy and opened up a new visual language to make sense of the world.
