“To send light into the darkness of men’s hearts – such is the duty of the artist.” ~Schumman
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I could never choose one medium, that would be like asking a parent to pick a favorite child, but sometimes one needs more attention than the others. At this time, my focus is photojournalism, and my eyes are fixed on DHS and ICE.
Where do you find inspiration?Humanity. The human condition. I have a preoccupation with documentation, stories, memory, and truth. These days I’m most inspired by the empathy, courage, and resilience of the people that I photograph. Their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to fight injustice is breathtaking.
What would you do with $25,000?At the moment, I’m in need of an upgrade to some of my protective gear (gas mask, bullet proof helmet, body cam, new plates for my press vest, etc) so that I can continue my work as safely as possible. As I’m independent, it would also help me afford to continue to be posted up at the Metropolitan Detention Center. I was also recently offered my first solo show later this year, but currently lack the funds to produce the work. This money would make it all possible.
